Project 50 Places

In my spare time (hahaha) I'm working on a new project that I'm really excited about. I've lovingly entitled it "Project 50 Places."

I moved to Victoria last June with my husband Zach and our young children (then two, now three). We moved from the Comox Valley so Zach could do an eight month long internship in the finance department at YYJ Airport in Sidney. At the end of his internship, the plan was to pack everyone back up and move back north where Zach would resume his studies at NIC and I would pick my business back up in Courtenay. Well, plans change and we are staying!

Zach has transferred to Camosun to finish his Accounting degree and continues to work at the airport. And I am ready to get my photography business established in the Southern Island. I am so happy to be down here because it's a great and a beautiful place to be. Whenever I am around town, I see photography location jems and I just itch to do some portraits in them all. To stave off any sort of rut I might fall into (let's do another session at Beacon Hill Park, shall we?), I have decided to visit a monstrous list of possible locations to see what they are all about so that I can better service you and offer you some uniquely Victoria images.

Enter "Project 50 Places".... more accurately referred to as "Project 50+ Places." This new project is basically me loading up my favourite (albeit not always cooperative) subjects and perusing some of Greater Victoria's best outdoor parks, beaches, urban locations and cool places to take a portrait with my camera in tow. From East Sooke to Deep Cove, I've got a lot of ground to cover!

Ultimately, I will compile a photographic list of some of my favourite locations to help you decide what you'd like for your individual portrait session. For now, here are a couple of places we visited this week:

Francis King Memorial Park | Highlands

Here everything is covered in moss and the most beautiful green. There are boardwalks and even a "tree tunnel." It is accessible and the places I like to photograph in are a short walk from the parking lot. This is a great place for a woodsy family portrait session, or a beautiful stylized shoot (Little Red Riding Hood anyone?)

Saxe Point | Esquimalt

Saxe Point has it all! It's got grassy trails, gardens, some woods, cliffs overlooking the ocean and lots and lots of dogs. We didn't venture out onto the rocks too much because I didn't feel like going for a swim to pull a certain 2 year old out of the water but it really is stunning. These park would be perfect for a family or couple session.
